Herbs  for Stopping Cough and Reducing Phlegm     

 

 

pinellia tuber (rhizoma pinelliae; ban xia)

eliminating dampness, resolving phlegm, lowering the adverse flow of qi to stop vomiting, and disintegrating and resolving masses.

inula flower (flos inulae; xuan fu hua)

eliminating phlegm, promoting diuresis, and lowering the adverse flow of qi to stop vomiting

white mustard seed (semen sinapis albae; bai jie zi)

eliminating sputum, promoting the flow of qi, dissolving lumps and subduing swelling.

platycodon root (radix platycodi; jie geng)

ventilating the lung, resolving phlegm, promoting pus discharge and subduing carbuncles.

 

trichosanthes fruit (fructus trichosanthis; gua lou)

clearing away heat, resolving sputum, promoting the flow of qi to soothe chest oppression, subduing swelling to treat carbuncles, and moistening the bowels to relieve constipation.

fritillary bulb (bulbus fritillariae; bei mu)

resolving phlegm to stop cough and clearing away heat to dispel accumulation.

bitter apricot kernel (semen armeniacae amarum; xing ren)

relieving cough and asthma, moistening the intestines to relax the bowels.

lepidium seed (semen lepidii seu descurainiae; ting li zi)

removing heat from the lung, relieving asthma and promoting diuresis to reduce edema.

perilla seed (semen perillae; su zi)

relieving cough and asthma, lowering the adverse flow of qi to remove phlegm, and moistening intestines to loosen the bowels.
