Trogopterus Dung (wu ling zhi)

Faeces Trogopterorum

Properties: It is sweet and bitter in flavour, warm in nature, acts on the liver channel. Being sweet for acting midly, and warm for clearing and activating the channels, it acts on the blood division for promoting blood circulation, relieving blood stasis and pain. It is the drug commonly used to treat various abdominal and chest pain due to stasis in the blood division, dysmenorrhea. When it is stir-fried, it can also remove blood stasis and hemostasis, cure bleeding syndrome caused by blood stasis, and blood flooding out from vessels.

Effects: Promoting blood circulation to relieve pain, stopping by removing the blood stasis.

Indications:

1. For treatment of irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea due to blood stasis, postpartum tormina caused by stasis, it is usually used in combination with Pollen typhae, i.e. Shixiao San; For treatment of various pain in chest and abdomen due to blood stasis, it is frequently used together with Rizoma corydalis, Rhizoma cyperi, redix Angelicae Sinensis, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, and other herbs having the effect of promoting both blood and Qi circulation to stop pain.

2. For treatment of metrorrhagia and metrostaxis due to stasis in the blood division, blood flooding out from vessels shown by menorrhagia with purple color and blood clot, stabbing pain at lower abdomen, it is usually used in combination with Radix Notoginseng, Herba Leonari, Radix Rubiae, Pollen Typhae, and other herbs to stop bleeding by removing blood stasis, to regulate menstruation and to relieve pain.

Dosage and Administration: 5-10g, wrapped in a cloth bag and decocted. When used for hemostasis, it is used after stir-fired; when used for promoting blood circulation, it is used unprepared.

Precautions: Contraindicated in pregnancy and incompatible to Radix Ginseng.
