John, American male, 62 years old, 1.55 meters high, 60 kilograms.

 

Severe hearing loss which was not helped by either western medicine or oriental medicine for 50 years. Lost all hearing recently from January 30, 2003.

 

The patient complained that when he was 12 years old (1954), the hearing gradually lost overtime without any known reasons.

 

In 1957, left ear reconstruction surgery was made. The left ear had a better hearing ability than the right one. In 1982, the patient got three reconstruction surgeries of the right ear in the Thomas Jeffeson University Hospital in two months in Philadelphia USA. The surgeries made the right ear loose the hearing ability completely. So the patient has to use a hearing aid in his left ear to help the hard hearing.

 

 

The patient completed his university study program almost by reading.

 

On January 30, 2003, the patient almost lost all his hearing if the hearing aid instrument is not used.

 

The patient learned quite a lot of alternative therapies, so he used all these skills to help himself with the ear and health. He report good spirit, good appetite, sleep normal, no dizziness, no aching pains of the knees and back, sometimes yellow urine, normal stool, not too much drinks daily, sometimes little bit bitter taste in mouth. The patient said in winter he is hard to stand cold. 250 milliliters drinks daily.

 

No tidal fever, no thirst, no night sweat are found. The patient does not spit phlegm, does not has the history of trauma.

 

 

The patient felt sometimes the left head has the hot sense around the left ear, sometimes the left side of the body felt numb. The patient also complained reduced appetite. The patient is always worrisome, easy to be angry always and depressed often, even though he feels always optimistic and open-minded and happy.

 

In October, 2002, the patient sought Chinese medicine herbal treatment and acupuncture in America, and was told by acupuncturists that the kidney yin is deficient. After the treatment, the vision is improved and more vigorous body, but the left ear hearing ability was worsened further.

 

Right now, without hearing aid, no sounds at all in ears. With the hearing aid in left ear, he can hear all sounds but every sound is so high, pong, pong, pong like the same sound. No difference with the voice of a man or a woman. All sounds are compressed like broken recorder.

 

 

The left pulse is that liver part strong, slippery, kidney part relatively weak. The right pulse is that the spleen and kidney parts are weak. The tongue coating is yellowish and greasy.

 

Diagnosis of Dr. Ming:

 

Qi stagnation and blood stasis.

 

Treatment strategy is tonifying spleen, enriching qi, quickening blood circulation and opening orifice.

 

The herbal formula is a dosage a day, take 200 milliliters herbal tea in the morning 9:30 AM, and another 200 milliliters in the afternoon 2:00 PM. So Dr. Ming prescribed two dosages first and advised the patient to be improved gradually.

After second day treatment with herbal tea, less pressure in both ears, my hearing improve somewhat and my left ear which hardly hear for long, now it can hear more sounds. The right ear which could not hear anything in the past 2 years, could hear sounds now when I strike the cup cover like this. In the past, when I got up in the morning, it was hardly to hear sounds. It was almost empty. This morning when I got up, I was greatly surprised that when I used the tap, I could hear of voice of water flowing; when I opened the door, I can hear of sound of the door.

When I got up this morning, my mind and ears are much relaxed and clear. I never believe that herbs could help me so well in the past. I believe now.

 

Everything is much better. So my right ear could hear more voice and clearer.

Even after 4 day treatment with herbal tea prescribed by Dr. Ming, my hearing improves a lot, sounds clearer. My right ear can hear again even it was almost deaf for long. And also my well-being is better. Both ears hear almost the same sounds now. My only problem is hearing human sound. It is better and the sounds came to my ears will be lower.
