Charred Palm (zong lu tan)

Petiolus Trachycarpi

Properties: The drug is bitter and puckery in flovous, neutral in nature, and act on the liver and spleen channels. Being puckery for strongly stopping bleeding by astringency, the drug is indicated for haematemesis, hemafecia and many other kinds of bleeding. Being special for astringency but without resolving blood stasis and clearing heat, it should not be alone to treat bleeding with blood stagnation due to heat of excess type in other to prevent retaining blood stasis and astringing pathogen.

Effects: Stopping bleeding by astringency.

Indication: The drug is often used in combination with scutellaria root, capejasmine, field thistle, moutan bark and other herbs for strengthening the effect of cooling blood to stop bleeding, to treat haematemesis, epistaxis, hemafecia, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, and many other kinds of bleeding due to blood-heat; and with astragalus root, calcined dragon¡¯ bone, cuttle bone, rubia root and other herbs for supplementing Qi to control blood and to stop bleeding by astringency, such as Guchong Decoction, to treat bleeding due to Qi deficiency, debility of Chong and Ren Channels, and women¡¯s metrorrhagia and metrostaxis.

Dosage and Administration: 5-10g.1-2g each time for its powder.
