Tabasheer (tian zhu huang)

Concretio Silicea Bambusae

Properties: It is sweet in flavour and cold in nature. It is tropistic to the heart, liver, gallbladder channels. Its main effects are clearing heart and liver heat, resolving phlegm and arresting convulsion. It is mainly indicated accumulation of phlegm-heat, infantile convulsion, aphasia from stroke, and other syndromes. It is a common drug in pediatrics.

Effects: Removing heat, phlegm, and liver-heat and arresting convulsion.

Indications:

1. For treatment of infantile accumulation of heat-phlegm, convulsion caused by high fever, it is used together with Arisaema cum Bile, Calculus Bovis, cinnabaris, Muschus, and other drugs with the functions of clearing away heat and phlegm, resuscitating, calming the endogenous wind, such as Niuhuang Baolong Wan. For treatment of infantile cough due to phlegm-heat, dyspnea with phlegm stridor, it can be used in combination with Rhizoma Coptidis, Bombyx, Batryticatus, Indigo Naturalis, and other drugs.

2. For treatment of apoplexy due to phlegm-heat, aphasia and hemiparalysis, unconsciousness, it is usually used together with Fructus Trichosanthis, Arisaema cum Bile, Radix Curcumae, and other drugs with the effects of removing heat-phlegm, resuscitating, calming the endogenous wind.

Dosage and Administration: 3-10g with powder dosage form, 0.6-1g every time.
