Loranthus Mulberry Mistletoe (sang ji sheng)  

Ramulus Loranthis

Properties: Bitter and sweet in flavour, neutral in nature, it acts on liver and kidney channel. Being sweet for reinforcing the renal function, nourishing the blood and strengthening the muscles, it is one of important drugs for reinforcing the kidney and muscular function, and preventing miscarriage. Being bitter, it is suitable for rheumatic arthralgia and deficiency of liver and kidney.

Effects: Expelling wind-dampness, invigorating the liver and kidney, strengthening the muscles and bones, and nourishing blood to prevent abortion.

Indications:

1. For arthralgia due to wind-dampness, pains in loins and knees, deficiency of liver and kidney, asthenia of muscles, aching and weakness of loins and knees, it is often used together with pubescent angelica root (Radix Angelicae pubescentis), eucommia bark (Cortex Eucommiae) and achyranthes and cyathula root (Radix Achyranthis bidentatae et Radix Cyathulae), as in Pubescent Angelica and Loranthus Decoction.

2. For threatened abortion or vaginal bleeding during pregnancy due to deficiency of liver and kidney, it is often used with eucommia bark (Cortex Eucommiae), dipsacus root (Radix Dipsaci) and dodder seed (Semen Cuscutae).

Dosage and Administration: 10-20g.
