Prepared Soybean (dan dou chi)

Semen Sojae Praeparatum

Properties: The drug is pungent and sweet in flavour, slightly bitter in nature and acts on the lung and stomach channels.  Pungent for its relatively weak effect of dispersing exopathogens, the drug is good at dispersing stagnated heat in the chest to relieve vexation.

Effects: Dispelling exopathogens and relieving vexation.

Indication:

1.  The drug is often used in combination with Chinese green onion, such as Cong Chi Decoction, to treat light wind-cold syndromes affected by exopathogens; and with peppermint, honeysuckle flower and other diaphoretics pungent in flavour and cool in nature, to treat wind-heat type of exterior syndromes.

2.  To treat epidemic febrile disease caused by exopathogens in the upper Jiao, oppressed feeling in the chest, vexation and insomnia, it is often used in conjunction with capejasmine fruit for dispersing accumulated heat, such as Zhizi Chi Decoction.

Dosage and Administration: 10-15g.
