Properties:
The herb is pungent in flavour, and warm in nature. It
acts on the liver, kidney, spleen and stomach channels.
Being pungent and warm for dispersing cold, the herb is
good at regulating Qi flow in the liver and stomach to
disperse cold and alleviate pain. Mainly acting on the
middle-jiao and the lower-jiao, it is often used o treat
abdominal colic due to invasion of cold, abdominal pain,
cold, distention and pain in the stomach.
Effects:
Dispersing cold, alleviating pain, regulating the flow of
Qi and normalizing functions of the stomach.
Indications:
1. The herb is
often used in combination with lindera root, Chinese
cassia back, eagle wood other herbs for dispersing cold,
promoting Qi circulation and alleviating pain, such as
Liver-Warming Decoction, to treat accumulation of cold in
the liver channel, abdominal colic due to invasion of cold
and abdominal pain; and with cinnamon twig, Chinese
angelica root, chuanxiong and other herbs for warming the
channels, dispersing cold, regulating menstruation and
alleviating pain, to treat stagnation of blood during
menstruation due to cold, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea.
2. To treat cold
of insufficiency type in the spleen and stomach, failure
of descending of the stomach-qi, anorexia, vomiting, cold
and pain in the stomach and abdomen, the herb can be used
in combination with nutgrass flatsedge rhizome, dried
ginger, aucklandia root other herbs for warming the
middle-jiao, dispersing cold, promoting Qi circulation and
alleviating pain.
