Large Leaf Gentian Root (qin jiao)

adix Gentianae Macrophyllae

¡¡

Properties: RPungent and bitter in flavour, neutral in nature, it acts on stomach, liver and gallbladder channels. Being pungent and bitter for eliminating the wind-dampness, neutral for cooling and moistening, it is suitable for arthralgia caused by wind-dampness, ascites, etc.

Effects: Eliminating the wind and fever of deficiency type, releasing jaundice.

Indications:

1. For arthralgia, joint pain, spasm of limbs caused by wind-cold, the herb is used together with ledebouriella root, pubescent angelica root and Chuanxiong rhizome to diapel wind-cold and clear channels to release pains; for those related to heat dampness, it is often used in combination with phellodendron bark (Cortex Phellodendri), achyranthes and cyathula root (Radix Achyranthis bidentatae et Radix Cyathulae).

2. For heat due to Yin-deficiency, hectic fever and afternoon fever, it is often used together with sweet wormwood (Herba Artemisia), anemarrhena rhizome (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), wolfberry bark (Cortex Lycii radicis) and unprepared rehmannia root (Radix Rehmanniae Unpreparata).

3. For jaundice due to damp-heat, the oriental wormwood (Herba Artemisiae capillaries), capejasmine fruit (Fructus Gardeniae) and curcuma root (Radix Curcumae) are added to facilitate tile exeretion and release jaundice.

Dosage: 5-10g.
