Herba seu Radix Japonici

Properties: The herb is sweet and bitter in flavour, cool in nature, and acts on the heart and liver channels. Being sweet and cool for clearing heat, and acting on blood for clearing heart from blood to stop bleeding, the drug is indicated for many kinds of bleeding due to blood-heat. Being for purgating toxic substances and eliminating swelling, the herb can be used to treat skin and external diseases due to toxic heat.

Effects: Clearing heat from blood to stop bleeding, and toxins to eliminate swelling.

Indications:

1. To treat epistaxis, haematemesis, hematuria, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, and many other kinds of bleeding due to blood-heat, the herb is often used in combination with capejasmine, rhubarb, field thistle, cogongrass rhizome, rubia root and other herbs for clearing heat from blood to stop bleeding, such as Shihui Powder.

2. To treat skin and external diseases due to toxic heat, the fresh herb can be pounded to take its juice for oral medication, or mashed for external application, or used in combination with dandelion herb, Chinese violet, honeysuckle flower and other herbs for clearing heat and toxins.

In recent years, the herb is often used to treat hepatitis, nephritis, hypertension and other diseases.

Dosage and Administration: 10-16g. 30-60g for raw herb.
