Red Halloysite (chi shi zhi)

Halloysitum Rubrum

Properties: Sweat, astringent and sour in flavour, neutral in nature, it is tropistic to the large intestine and stomach channels. Being sweat and astringent in flavour and neutral in nature, it functions specifically in astringing mainly for the bowel to stop diarrhea; and also is used for hemostasis and promoting tissue regeneration and wound healing, to treat deficiency of Qi and chronic diarrhea, hemafesia in deficiency-cold syndrome, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis of women as well as ruptured abscess resistant to healing, etc.

Effects: Astringing intestines to arrest diarrhea, stopping bleeding, and promoting tissue regeneration and wound healing.

Indications:

1. For chronic diarrhea due to spleen deficiency, or diarrhea and dysentery in the type of deficiency cold , it is often used with herbs for replenishing Qi to invigorate the spleen, and warming Yang to arrest diarrhea, such as Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Rhiaoma Zingiberis and Fructus Psoraleae.

2. For deficiency of Chong and Ren Meridians with metrorrhagia, metrostaxis and leucorrhagia, it is used with drugs for curing metrorrhagia and leukorrhagia, such as Os Sepiella seu Sepiae, Calicined Os Draconis Fossilia Ossis Mastodi, Semen Euryales, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, etc.

Dosage and Administration: 10-20g, used in bolus or powder; appropriate amount for external use.
