Properties:
The herb is bitter, sweet and puckery in flavour, slightly
cold in nature, and acts on the lung, liver and stomach
channels. Being sticky, puckery and acting on blood;
having strong effect of stopping bleeding by astringency,
the herb is indicated for hemoptysis, haematemesis,
traumatic bleeding and other kinds of bleeding caused by
hurt in the lung and stomach. With its astringing nature,
it can also be used to heal wounds and promote tissue
regeneration.
Effects: Stopping
bleeding by astringency, relieving swelling and promoting
tissue regeneration.
Indications:
1. The herb is
often used in combination with cuttle bone powder, such as
Wuji Powder for infusion with hot boiled water, to treat
haematenesis and tomachache; and with dondey-hide gelatin,
dried rehmannia root, biota tops, pyrrosia leaf and other
herbs for cooling blood to stop bleeding, resolving phlegm
and relieving cough, to treat cough with phlegm and blood
due to pulmonary tuberculosis. To treat traumatic
bleeding, the herb can be ground into powder for external
application.
2. To treat
diabrotic skin sore without healing for a long time, the
herb can be ground into powder, used in combination with
frankincense, myrrh, calcined dragon's bone, dragon's
blood and other drugs for external application to astringe
sore and promote healing. To treat scald, burn and chapped
skin, the herb can be ground into powder and mixed with
oil for external application.
Dosage and
Administration: 5-10g. 2-5g
each time for powder, an appropriate amount for external
application.
Precautions: Incompatible
with aconite root.
