Rhizoma Arisaematis
Properties:
It
is acrid bitter in flavour, warm in nature and toxic. It
acts on the lung, spleen, and liver channels. Its
acridness is dispersing, its bitterness purging, and
warmness and dryness resolving phlegm. Its potent
desiccating property is stronger than that of Rhizoma
Pinelliae. It is good for removing wind-phlegm in channels
and relieving spasm. It is mainly indicated in dizziness
due to wind-phlegm, stroke with abundant phlegm, and
tetanus. It is also used to clear phlegm-dampness in
spleen and stomach, cough and asthma due to
phlegm-dampness, cough due to phlegm-heat, infantile
convulsion due to phlegm-heat.
Effects:
Eliminating dampness to resolve phlegm, dispelling wind
and relieve spasm.
Indications:
1.
For treatment of accumulation of phlegm-dampness,
cough with abundant expectoration, inappetence and
oppressive chest, it is usually used in combination with
Pericarpium Citri, Rhizoma Pinelliae, Fructus Aurantii
Immaturus, and other drugs removing dampness to reduce
phlegm. For treatment of cough due to heat, the Arisaema
cum Bile is used together with Radix Scutekkariae, Fructus
Trixhosanthis, Bulbus Fritillariae, and other heat and
phlegm-removing drugs.
2.
For treatment of dizziness due to wind-phlegm,
stroke with abundant phlegm, hemiplegia, and so on, it is
usually used together with Rhizoma Pinelliae, Rhizoma
Gastrodiae, Rhizoma Typhonii, and other drugs with the
effects of resolving phlegm and dispelling wind. For
treatment of infantile convrlsion due to phlegm-heat, its
bile preparation is used in combination with Tabasheer,
Cinnabaris, and other drugs removing heat-phlegm, heat
from the liver and arresting convulsion: For treatment of
tetanus, it can be used together with Radix Ledebouriellae, Radix
Angelicae, and other drugs with the
effects of dispelling wind to relieve spasm, such as
Yuzhen San.
Besides, when the
fresh herb is used externally it can subside swelling to
cure furuncle and carbuncle with septicema.
Dosage and Administration: 5-10g.
Suitable amount for external application. Its bile
preparation is used in treatment of phlegm-heat syndromes.
Precautions:
Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Appendix: Arisaema cum Bile
It is the preparation of Rhizoma Arisaematis powder
proccessed with bile of cow, sheep or pig. It is bitter in
flavour and cold in nature. Its effect is clearing away
heat to resolve phlegm, dispelling wind and relieving
convulsion and spasm, thus it is used for cough due to
phlegm-heat, stroke due to phlegm, heat, stroke, and other
syndromes. The dosage is 3-10g.
