Herba Eupatorii

Properties:  Pungent in flavour, mild in nature, it acts on the spleen and stomach channels. This herb possesses the functions of dispelling dampness because of its fragrance, promoting activity of spleen and stomach. It is good at dispelling putrid pathogenic dampness in the middle-jiao. So, it is one of the important drugs for dampness retention in the middle-jiao, foul breath and greasy tongue coating. The pungent and aromatic flavour of the herb can relieve exterior syndrome, and summer-heat, hence indicating for exterior syndrome due to summer-dampness, aversion to cold, fever, oppressive chest and greasy tongue coating.

Effects: Dispelling dampness, enlivening spleen, relieving exterior syndrome and summer-heat.

Indications:

1. For the syndrome of dampness retention in the middle-jiao manifested as foul breath, salivation, poor appetite, abdominal distension, vomiting, greasy and thick tongue coating, it is used alone, or in combination with agastache and atractylodes rhizome for augmentation of the functions of dispelling dampness and enlivening the spleen.

2. For summer-dampness affection, aversion to cold, fever, oppressive chest, greasy tongue coating, it is often used in combination with agastache, lotus leaf, elscholtzia, etc.

Dosage and Administration: 6-10g. Double the dose when use the fresh.
